Eid outfit ideas: modest dresses and abayas

Eid is a long day: prayer in the morning, family through the afternoon, visits into the evening, often with children to carry and food to serve. The best Eid outfit feels special when you put it on and still feels comfortable ten hours later. Here are five ways to dress for it.

1. An abaya set that needs nothing added

An embellished abaya with its own slip dress and belt is a complete outfit in one piece. Pearl trim or contrast piping is enough decoration for the day, and the loose cut is comfortable sitting, standing and praying.

2. A floral chiffon dress

For a spring or summer Eid, a long-sleeved chiffon dress in a floral print is light, cool and festive. See the floral edit. Chiffon is sheer by nature, so wear a slip dress underneath where the dress needs one.

3. Satin for the evening

If the celebration runs into the evening, satin has a quiet sheen that looks its best in lamplight. A plain satin dress or abaya in a deep colour needs only a simple hijab.

4. Mother and daughter in the same dress

Several of our girls' dresses are small versions of a women's dress in the same print, in sizes from 1 to 10 years. They make the family photograph.

5. A simple dress and a special hijab

A plain crepe dress you already love becomes an Eid outfit with a new printed hijab. It is the lightest way to mark the day, and the hijab will be worn long afterwards.
